The worlds of music and movement-based performance have been at the centre of Burstow’s television directing career.

His performance programs include the first contemporary dance series commissioned for Australian television, Seven Deadly Sins, the telemovie Wet and the award-winning short film choreographed by Dein Perry, Tap Dogs. His screen adaptation of the Legs on the Wall production, Homeland, filmed at Circular Quay, was seen by over 350 million viewers as part of the international millennium broadcast 2000 Today.

His arts documentaries range from essay-style (e.g. IOU Elizabeth Jolley) to observational (e.g. Artists at Work: Jandamarra) via an outback road trip film with the Australian String Quartet.

While working with ABC TV, he also directed a series of monologues adapted from theatre productions and worked in a number of other genres including travel/adventure with Bush Tucker Man and A Big Country; science with Catalyst; and two children’s television series, Feral TV and Swinging.
